Anxiety and Mood Disorders Center
When children struggle with anxiety and mood disorders, they can experience distress and dysfunction in every sphere of life. While they may have extraordinary potential to achieve in school and the desire to form strong, fulfilling relationships with family and friends, their symptoms interfere with their abilities, needs, and dreams.
The Child Mind Institute's Anxiety and Mood Disorders Center is committed to giving these children and teens the treatment they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives. We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of anxiety disorders—generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and phobias—and mood disorders, including depression, dysthymic disorder, and bipolar disorder, hypochondriasis, tic disorders, Tourette's disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, trichotillomania, mood disorder, not otherwise specified, and anxiety disorder, not otherwise specified.
We present a series of free monthly support workshops for parents.
Our Unique Specialty Programs
The Child Mind Institute's goal is to provide the best treatment in the least restrictive environment. Our intensive treatment programs are an alternative to hospitalization for a child with severe and persistent symptoms.
Diagnostic Evaluation and Treatment
When you bring your child to us for a diagnostic evaluation, we use evidence-based methods to gain perspective on the nature and intensity of your child's symptoms. By way of example, if your child is depressed, she may be unusually irritable and hard on herself—feeling that she's no good, not attractive enough, or not accepted by other girls her age. Our evaluation will give us insight into how these thoughts and feelings—specific, individual symptoms—can be treated.
Your child's diagnosis will guide all of our treatment recommendations. We'll discuss the type, length, and intensity of treatment that's most appropriate for your child and meets your family's needs. We offer parents our expertise on whether and how medication should be combined with psychotherapy. Many of our programs also offer psychoeducation and training for parents and teachers.
Conditions we treat include: generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, panic disorder (with or without agoraphobia), post-traumatic stress disorder, social phobia, agoraphobia, specific phobias, major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder, bipolar disorder, hypochondriasis, tic disorders (including chronic motor tic and chronic vocal tic disorders), Tourette's disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, trichotillomania, skin picking, enuresis, mood disorder, not otherwise specified, and anxiety disorder, not otherwise specified.
