Child Mind Institute

Jill M. Emanuele, PhD is a clinical psychologist with a breadth of experience in the evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents with mood and anxiety disorders. Dr. Emanuele has brought expertise in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and family therapy to her work with diverse populations of children, adolescents, and their families, in a multitude of treatment settings. She is dedicated to increasing public education and disseminating empirically supported treatments for childhood and adolescent mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder, and mindfulness-based interventions. Dr. Emanuele is an intensively trained clinician in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), with over a decade of experience in providing DBT individual and group therapy to adolescents and their families, while supervising and teaching students and clinicians in providing DBT services.

Dr. Emanuele joins the Child Mind Institute after her tenure at Bronx Children's Psychiatric Center, a state inpatient hospital for children and adolescents with complex symptom presentations, most notably trauma. After serving as first a primary therapist for preadolescents, and later the administrative Treatment Team Leader of the older adolescent inpatient unit, she used her leadership and expertise in empirically supported treatments to teach and provide clinical supervision to psychology, psychiatry, and social work students. Prior to her service at Bronx Children's, Dr. Emanuele was an Attending Psychologist and Director of Psychological Assessment in the Child Outpatient Department and Adolescent Depression and Suicide Program at Montefiore Medical Center. In addition to providing direct patient care while supervising and teaching psychology and psychiatry trainees, Dr. Emanuele led the adaptation and update of an empirically supported treatment for adolescent depression for use with ethnic minority youth and a new generation of adolescents struggling with depression and suicidality. As a clinical psychologist in private practice in Manhattan since 2006, Dr. Emanuele has focused on the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and their families coping with mood and anxiety disorders, non-suicidal self-injury, and behavioral disorders.

Dr. Emanuele earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from George Mason University, and completed her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship, both in child and adolescent psychology, at Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJ). During her training and tenure as a licensed psychologist at LIJ, Dr. Emanuele was a core member of a collaborative team that molded and developed one of the largest adolescent outpatient DBT programs in the tri-state area. Dr. Emanuele graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Richmond where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in Music.

Dr. Emanuele has held an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine since 2004. A respected teacher and supervisor of clinical trainees, Dr. Emanuele has presented at academic medical centers, public schools, community health centers, and professional conferences on the topics of adolescent depression and suicide, adolescent self-injury, DBT, adolescent borderline personality disorder, and mindfulness, and co-authored book chapters on some of these important topics. Dr. Emanuele is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Emanuele is devoted to providing exceptional treatment to children, adolescents, and their families. She is a strong advocate for establishing trust and collaboration in the therapeutic relationship, in order to build a strong foundation for growth, self-discovery, and success for every individual.
