The Child Mind Institute and the Selective Mutism Group (SMG) are proud to co-sponsor the annual Selective Mutism Conference in New York City on Friday, October 28, 2011. The conference aims to provide useful and cutting-edge information to parents and professionals in the selective mutism community.

Keynote Address

Emotion Regulation in Selective Mutism: Can They Really Be So Anxious If They Look So Calm?
Presented by Deborah C. Beidel, PhD, ABPP
Director of the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at the University of Central Florida
Dr. Beidel is nationally renowned for her groundbreaking work in childhood social anxiety and selective mutism (SM).

The following sessions were selected after a rigorous peer review process. All parents, family members, and treating professionals from various disciplines will attend Dr. Beidel's keynote address and then choose three of the following six presentations to attend.

Traveling with children?

For parents traveling with children, Melissa Ortega, PsyD, Clinical Coordinator of the Child Mind Institute's Brave BuddiesSM program, will run a kids program for up to 25 children ages 4-13 on a first-registered, first-served basis. The children, both those with and without SM, will participate in a day full of games and activities with our trained counselor staff. 

Continuing Education Credit

This course is offered for 0.4 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional Area). The .4 CEUs will be available for a $50 additional fee, payable onsite at the Conference.
