Girls With ADHD Have Higher Rates Of Self-Injury: Study
Aug. 20, 2012 The Huffington PostDr. Stephen Hinshaw, of the Child Mind Institute's Scientific Research Council published a study on the rate of self-injury and attempts of suicide during the teenage years of girls with ADHD. The study showed that more than half of the girls with a sub-type of ADHD had engaged in some form of self-harm, such as cutting, burning or pulling out chunks of their hair.

Girls with ADHD More Prone to Self-Injury, Suicide as They Enter Adulthood
Aug. 16, 2012 Neuroscience NewsDr. Stephen Hinshaw, co-chair of the Child Mind Institute's Scientific Research Council published the study done at UC Berkley showing—with the largest sample yet—that as girls with ADHD grow older, they show fewer visible symptoms of the disorder, but continue to suffer in hidden ways. The findings challenge assumptions that girls can “outgrow” ADHD, and underscore the need for long-term monitoring and treatment of the disorder.
